David Nana Opoku Ansah

David Nana Opoku Ansah is a self-taught photographer and filmmaker born and raised in Accra, Ghana. Primarily through fashion and portraiture, he creates work centred around freedom, community, black culture and all things human. His critically acclaimed ongoing project “Area Boys” captures the theme of freedom, vulnerability, truth and what it means for coming-of-age Ghanaian boys.
David was selected as one of the top three emerging photographers for “the Independent Photo contest”. He was the only Ghanaian to be chosen by the Tanzania Arts Festival for their annual group exhibition in 2019 in Zanzibar. His work is also featured in Vogue’s Hope Series. He is a grantee and winner of the 2020 Ph Museum’s New generation award. David was selected as one of the five African image-makers to reflect on their shared trajectories to James Barnor’s archive in April 2021 at Piccadilly Circus in London. In July 2021, he exhibited work at Le Carreau du Temple in Paris, France.
