The series ‘The King is my Neighbour’ is a visual study by photography duo Mirre Nimmegeers and Eri Vanluchene on the notions of sovereign power and an experimentation in creating narratives through suggestive pairings and associative imagery.

The story avoids associations with both place and date, where the photographs represent a documentation of search for an unknown fictional ruler and the history of their actions.

Through these images, the photographer’s aim is to show how the idea of monarchy has faded to merely a symbol of power and a shadow of what it once was. In fact, it’s the absence of this power within the imagery that the photographer hopes raise questions in the viewer and hopes to hold a mirror to our current times.
