Tanya Houghton (Born.1985) is a social documentary photographer based in London. She spent eight years assisting a range of advertising and fashion photographers before undertaking an M.A in Photography and Urban Cultures to further her own practice. Having studied at University of Arts London and Goldsmiths University, she comes from a background of sociology and constructed photography working on a range of projects, collaborative and curatorial.
Blurring boundaries between documentary photography and conceptual art based practice she focuses on themes of ecology centred around landscape and memory. Exploring the tension between the Urban (man) and the Rural (nature), she collects the stories that we as humans imprint onto the landscape, and in return the stories those landscapes reveal about us.
